Capstone Equips Seniors

After a yearlong individual research project on a controversial issue, SMCA seniors have reached the final step of their Senior Capstone class.  All thirteen students spent the last week at jobsites that allow them to gain a 30-hour hands-on experience in a career and interview professionals in the field of their research.  The Senior Capstone teaches students how to develop, understand, evaluate, and construct arguments to defend their biblical worldviews in a secular world.

Whether it was working one-on-one to help a patient or being part of making national policy, SMCA seniors tasted what it’s like to make a difference in the world.

From Chuck Johnson, President and CEO of the National Council for Adoption: “We had a busy day yesterday with a meeting on the Hill with a Senator’s office and a luncheon roundtable with a conservative pro-life group that is trying to figure out ways to reach women experiencing unplanned pregnancy with information about adoption…Tomorrow we attend a congressional briefing on foster care.”

Doug Hill, Meteorologist at ABC7, reported, “I have a large staff of young meteorologists and he has met all of them… He is going to interview me on Thursday, In the meantime, he’s learning all he can about the science of meteorology, computer modeling, graphic design and production…the core elements of our day to day jobs.  He’s a great ambassador for SMCA.”

Congratulations to the SMCA seniors for representing us well!  We know you’ll do a professional job this week on your final portfolio presentations to the Capstone Committee!
