Middle School Retreat: West River Center
With sleeping bags, suitcases, buses, and excitement in the air; SMCA’s middle school students were ready for their retreat at the West River Center. The forecast loomed of the possibility of rain; however, God answered our prayer and held off the rain. The middle schoolers arrived to a beautiful center filled with many activities in which to try and some nice log cabins in which to lodge. Middle schoolers participated in activities such as the following: The Corinthian trail ( team building activities), the giant swing, the rock wall, basketball, human Foosball, a nature hike, and blanket volleyball. The kids had a blast trying new things and hanging out with old and new friends. The trip was a huge success because of the amount of parents who volunteered to join us on this trip. I think some of them had more fun than the students! Our speaker for the trip was our own Mr. Frank Shelton. He talked to the students about many Scriptures including John 6 and the feeding of the five thousand. He reminded/ challenged the students that you don’t have to be famous to be used by God, but you do have to be faithful. He also used the book of Isaiah to remind students that waiting is not your enemy; it is a friend you haven’t learned to appreciate yet. You need to wait on the Lord. Many students and parents made decisions to live for Christ. It was a wonderful time had by all, and we can’t wait to go back next year! God is good all the time, and all the time God is good!
