Science is BEARY Fun in Kindergarten
The students began their hibernation unit by enjoying a read aloud titled “Wake Me in Spring,” by: James Preller. Afterwards, the students enjoyed painting shoe boxes to create bear caves. Once the students had finished painting their bear caves, they watched a video that focused on learning about different types of bears, the importance of hibernating, and bear behaviors.
The students also enjoyed learning across the curriculum by utilizing a bar graph to graph their favorite bears. Later in the lesson, the students went on a nature walk to find leaves, sticks, acorns, and etc. to create a nest for their bear caves. At the conclusion of our lesson, the students placed their bears into their caves, said a prayer, and allowed them to begin their hibernation process.
To celebrate our lesson on hibernation, the students enjoyed Teddy Bear Cookies during snack time. Once Spring arrives and hibernation comes to an end, the students will retrieve their bears from their caves and enjoy a Teddy Bear Picnic outside.
