Ash Girl: Fall Drama Production
With her mother dead and her father ( Nicky Cox, 9th) away, Ashgirl ( Alayna Cox, 12th) lives with her stepmother( Holli Kobialka, 12th) and stepsisters ( Jamie Davis, 10th and Rylee Gragg ,12th).When the invitation to the ball arrives from the Prince ( Kelcie Kitchen, 11th), Ashgirl finds the strength to go with the help of her friends, some of whom come from unexpected places. When she gets home, Ashgirl realizes that in order to regain the fleeting happiness she found in the arms of the prince, she must fight the monsters who have slithered and insinuated their way into her heart and mind. She must believe in herself for others to do so.
This play was one that we decided to perform again after 4 years. Some of the students who were in it four years ago were able to play the same parts while others took on new roles. It is always fun to put on a play, but this play was special for so many more reasons. The monsters that Ashgirl had to fight were sins that we deal with everyday such as greed ( Nyla Gordon, 7th) , anger (Taylor Baker, 10th) , lust ( Kamari Johnson, 11th) , pride ( Jaiyana West, 7th), envy ( Kiersten Coleman, 8th), gluttony ( Annie Gaines, 12th) and slothfulness ( Layla Dodson, 7th). The play showed us how sin can so easily entangle us and confuse us from knowing the truth. It was her friends that reminded her to have hope. They left out that she needs to have hope in God and remember that He has won the war and already conquered all of those sins by dying on the cross for each of us. The play ended each night with one of our seniors ( Alayna Cox, Annie Gaines, and Rylee Gragg) reminding us of this. It was a fun night with a beautiful carriage and set. Thank you for all your support! We hope to see you again in the spring!
