Tre Douglas: 1,000 Career Points
Tre Douglas began playing Middle School basketball at SMCA in the sixth grade and recalled that he didn’t get much playing time until eighth grade year. “It never crossed my mind that one day I would score 1,000 points,” said Douglas. “I feel honored because not a lot of high school players get the opportunity to reach that milestone.
On the evening of his 1000th scored point, Franklyn Tre Douglas, III was frantically totaling up his career points with a pen and paper. After scurrying through three different score books, Tre came to me and said, “I have nine-hundred and ninety-four points Coach.” I immediately went through the same grueling process of adding up three years of point totals and came to the same conclusion that Tre was only six points away from reaching the career milestone of one-thousand points.
The game was quickly underway and we found ourselves trailing by thirteen points, 48-35 to a very good Greater Grace team. After an intense halftime discussion, the boys began the second half on an amazing 16-2 run with a driving lay-up at the 4:11 mark of quarter three putting the boys up 51-50. Immediately the game clock stopped and on that basket Tre had reached the one-thousand point mark of his career. “We ended up getting the ball off a steal and Maurtice passed ahead to me for a fast break lay-in. At the time, I was not aware that we went ahead on my 1,000th point. That was crazy, kind of like God’s hand was on the entire scene. It feels amazing that my children and family will come back and be able to see the contributions that I made at SMCA. It’s like I will always be a part of the school’s history,” said Douglas.
The senior concluded saying, “I would like to tell my teammates to always stay together, operate as one unit, always play with a chip on their shoulders and remember to keep GOD first.”
When we see Tre let’s remember to congratulate him on such a wonderful accomplishment! We are proud of you, Tre, and thankful for your contributions to the Mustang athletic program.
