Drive-by Kindergarten Graduation
COVID-19 has impacted schools across the nation in ways we never thought were possible three to four months ago. 2020 graduates are being forced to miss out on one of the most important milestones of their lives. The opportunity to walk across a decorated stage, and show their loved ones that they have worked diligently to meet the necessary requirements to graduate is not possible. With all the uncertainty that tomorrow holds, Mrs. Hirshman and I collaboratively decided and planned to the take K-5’s commencement on the road. Zooming our lessons and read aloud videos were not enough to celebrate our kindergartner’s accomplishments. Over a two day period, the entire K-5 team traveled through Charles County, Prince George’s County, and St. Mary’s County visiting thirty-four homes. With the help of our parents, it was important for us to let our students know that all hope was not lost. Though these experiences are out of the ordinary, it is our belief that our kindergartners will never forget the fact that their teachers came to their homes to celebrate them.
