A Word From Our Student Chaplain
Being a student at SMCA during these times has had its ups and downs. While every student struggled
with adjusting, we have also had the opportunity to look at our blessings. Having the ability to be in a classroom
even if it is just for two days each week has helped tremendously. We are in an environment where it’s clear the
teachers care about our education. When school returns to normal, I look forward to seeing how far SMCA has
progressed. With all the adjustments that had to be made, SMCA has adapted to make things work. I believe
that the school will be even better than it was when the school was fully functioning. Every student sees the
teachers’ and administrators’ hard work in our everyday lives. Not only are we able to still have clubs in a
slightly different setting, we are also able to have discipleship groups and chapel.
The Drama Club is able to give a performance this year in a new way. With the production of The
Virtual Family in a week, we are all excited to see our hard work put on the stage. This play is also much more
personal since practically every family can relate. The production follows the story of a family trying to adjust
to life during the pandemic.
As Chaplain, I was a little worried about how this school year would go and if I would be able to still be
a productive Chaplain from a distance. But God, as always, has proven these fears false. Every Friday, I am able
to have a Bible study with students where we have discussions about our shortcomings and our high moments. I
see God working in mine and my peers’ lives. There is a deeper connection among students this year. While our
world is being separated, the students, despite our differences, unite to form connections with each other. We
see God working in SMCA to provide a safe space in a crazy world.
