2024 Taste of the Nations

Throughout the year, our elementary students will weekly spin the globe in Bible classes. Spin the globe? Yes! A student is chosen from each class weekly and wherever their finger lands, we pray for that part of the world. We learn about different cultures and attempt to focus on what can we pray for and how. We celebrate the diversity and creativity of our Lord as we journey across the globe. Our goal is to impress upon the students that prayer is not “the least” you can do, prayer is the MOST you can do. As believers, we are commanded to by God in Galatians 6:2, “Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.”
This year, we had the honor of hosting our second annual “Taste of the Nations”. Fifteen families from our school decorated tables with their country’s flag and samples of the food for the preschool, kindergarten, and elementary classes. Each student was given “passage” to every country, taking their “passports” table to table, getting a stamp to document their quest, and were able to sample foods from across the globe. Among the nations represented were: Nigeria, Poland, Uganda, Italy, Sierra Leone, USA, Argentina, El Salvador/Mexico, Jamaica, Ireland, Korea, Philippines, Canada, and Haiti. Parents generously shared their food and culture with our students and have sparked a genuine love universally for all people and cuisines. Students were granted the unique opportunity to share in “breaking bread” with our families as the ambassadors for nations they have prayed for and learned about all year!
Our prayer is that the students at SMCA will do as we have been commanded by Jesus—going and sharing the Gospel to the ends of the earth. “All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the Lord: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee.” Psalm 22:27 (KJV)
